Baby Root Canals

Your child’s oral health and development are at the heart of everything we do. Our goal is to preserve primary (baby) teeth whenever possible, resorting to extractions only when absolutely necessary. If a tooth is badly damaged, we focus on saving and restoring it with the most advanced treatments available. One effective solution is a pulpotomy—a procedure designed to save a compromised tooth and keep your child’s smile healthy and natural.

What Is a Pulpotomy?

A pulpotomy, often referred to as a “baby tooth root canal,” is a treatment used when decay or injury reaches the pulp—the innermost part of the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. If this area becomes infected and isn’t treated, it can cause pain, sensitivity, or even result in an abscess, sometimes making extraction unavoidable. With a pulpotomy, the infected portion of the pulp is carefully removed, allowing us to save the tooth and avoid further problems.

How Does a Pulpotomy Work?

To ensure your child is comfortable throughout the procedure, our pediatric dentists first numb the area. They then remove the decayed or infected tissue from the crown of the tooth, thoroughly clean the space, and apply a special medication to prevent infection from returning. Any healthy pulp in the roots remains intact. Finally, the tooth is protected with a crown or another suitable restoration to keep it strong and functional.

We understand that dental treatments can seem overwhelming for both kids and parents, especially those similar to a root canal. Thanks to our gentle approach and modern techniques, we do everything we can to make the process easy and stress-free. You can trust our team to provide your child with safe, compassionate care—helping them maintain a healthy, happy smile every step of the way.
