Our dentists and entire staff understand the importance of good oral health for young children. We understand the growth and development of children’s teeth and the importance of maintaining optimal oral health at an early age. We are here to help protect, educate and restore children’s teeth so that they can have a healthy and lasting smile.
Infant/Toddler First Dental Visit
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that you bring your child in to see us by his/her first birthday. Though this may sound early, we can teach you proper pediatric oral hygiene techniques, check for cavities, and watch for developmental problems.
Prevention Care
- Fluoride Treatment
- Fluoride is used to prevent tooth decay. Helps to strengthen teeth, resist acid, and block the cavity-forming action.
- Silver Diamine Fluoride
- Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a clear liquid that can be used to help prevent cavities from growing, particularly in children. By combining fluoride’s ability to remineralize teeth with silver’s antibacterial properties, SDF can strengthen your teeth and prevent cavities from growing and spreading to other teeth.
- Sealants
- Sealants are a thin coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth — usually the back teeth (the premolars and molars) — to prevent tooth decay. The liquid sealant quickly bonds into the grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth.
Digital X-rays & Digital Impressions
Latest technology used for quick and easy images. We use sensors/scanners specifically designed for pediatric patients.
Laser Dentistry
Solea Laser is a breakthrough technology that enables cavity prep to be performed anesthesia-free, delivering a dental experience that patients prefer. Solea also enables soft tissue procedures that are blood-free and suture-free with minimal post-op discomfort and remarkably rapid healing.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a combination of two different gases–oxygen and nitrous oxide. We administer the gas through a small mask placed over your child’s nose. The gas will make your child relax without the full effect of anesthesia. This helps many children relax during their procedure.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Conscious sedation is commonly used. We use it on children who are really afraid of the dentist. It is also helpful for young children who won’t sit still and children with special needs.
General Anesthesia
Under general anesthesia, your child will be completely asleep and pain free. Specially-trained anesthesia medical doctors will administer medications and monitor your child while a separate dentist performs the dental procedure or surgery. Anesthesia can be given in a dental office that is specially equipped.
Hospital Dentistry
Our doctors have privileges at Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego. We perform dental care under general anesthesia for young children and children with special needs.
